Students Participate In “Mashaal March” With Zest To Sensitise The Masses For Participation In Electoral Process
Nawanshahr, April 122019: The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district administration, with a view to sensitising the masses to come forward to exercise their right to vote on May 19, the polling day for the ensuing parliamentary election, organised a path breaking SVEEP activity in the district today.
A “Mashaal March” was organised in which the students of different educational institutions participated and pass the ” Lok Tatnra di Masshal” (Torch of Democracy) to spread the message of strengthening democracy by ensuring participation in electoral process. Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Bublani lightened the “Lok Tantra Di Mashaal” (Torch of Democracy) at a ceremony organised at Rayat Group of Institutes, Rail Mazra. ADC(G), Anupam Kaler, SP(H) Harish Dyama, SDM, Balachaur, Jasbir Singh, SDM, Nawanshahr, Dr, Vineet Kumar, DSP, Balachaur, Rajpal Singh Hundal, Capus Director, Suresh Seth, Election Tehsildar, Harish Kumar, Tehsildar Balachaur, Amandeep Chawla, DEO(SE) Harcharan Singh, District Sports Officer, Kulwinder Singh, District Guidance Counsellor, Vipin Kumar, Mass Media Officer, Jagat Ram, Election Kanugo, Vivek Moyela, Deepak Kumar,District Icons – Gurdeep Lal( PWD Voter) and Preeti (Transgender voter) , among others, were present on the occasion.
While handing over the “Torch of Democracy” to the students, Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Bublani, exhorted the youth to come forward to shoulder the responsibility of be “Torch Bearers” to spread the message in the society. “Let us ignite the spirit of democracy by passing the Torch of Democracy to your next peer group to spread the message among masses”, DC further mobilised the all sections of the society especially youth to take a pledge of acting as ambassadors for bringing in change in the mind set of the people in their vicinity.
“We should sensitise the people about the importance of the hard earned right to vote after attaining freedom, The great martyrs sacrificed their lives for the sake of independence as well as setting up democracy in the country. Now, it is our prime duty to strengthen the democracy by ensuring proper use of our right to vote”, further added the DC while lauding the efforts of the ADC(General) cum Nodal Officer SVEEP, , Anupam Kaler for planning innovative SVEEP activities to convert the awareness drive into mass movement. The DC also lauded the enthusiasm of the students being exhibited in different SVEEP activities. He also honoured the officials involved in the SVEEP activities.
The “Mashaal March” passed through Kathgarh, Balachaur, Garhi Kanugo, Jadla, Langroya, Nawanshahr, Mahalon, Kahma and culminated at Khatkar Kalan, native village of the great martyr, Sardar Bhagat Singh.
It is worth mentioning here that the “Mashaal March” was greeted by the students of the Govt. Smart Sr. Sec. School, Langoya by performing Gidda. At ITI , Nawanshahr, the “Mashaal March” was greeted by the SDM, Nawanshahr Dr. Vineet Kumar. The students of the GOvt. Smart Sr. Sec. School, Nawanshahr perfomed Gidda and recited ” Lok Tantra diyaan Boliyan” and students of the Shivalik Public School, Nawanshahr, performed Bhangra, ADC(G) Anupam Kaler administered oath to the participants . From ITI ground, the ” Mashaal March” led by DSP, Deepika Singh started for Govt. Smart Sr. Sec. School, where it was accorded rousing welcome by the staff and the students. Before reaching Khatkar Kalan, the ” Mashaal March ” was greeted with great zeal by the staff and students of Sandhu Institute of Nursing, Mahalon and later by the staff and students of the Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Kahma.
At Khatkar Kalan, the SDM, Banga, Deep Shikha Sharma, received the “Mashaal March” with overwhelming enthusiasm. The Voters’ Signature Drive, Cultural Programme dedicated to creating awareness among the masses to exercise their franchise on May 19 were organised on the occasion.
