CHANDIGARH: Runjhun Sharda of Chandigarh has been selected in the Indian women’s roller hockey team and would be competing in the 18th Asian Roller Skating Championship to be held in Namwon, South Korea, from September 4 to 14.
After excelling in the World Roller Games in China in 2017, the city girl will now be representing India in South Korea for Asian Championship. Student of DAV College, Sector 10, 18-year-old Runjhun will be playing as a defender for the team. She is the only one from Chandigarh to make it to the Indian team.
Runjhun took to the sport when she was six at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, Chandigarh, under the wings of Jaswinder Singh Goldy. Till date, she has won more than 100 medals at the national and state championships. She draws inspiration from her uncle Ajay Sharda who had been a cricketer and now is with Chandigarh Police. “I hope to deliver the goods for the Indian team in such a prestigious event. I have been preparing for the tournament by putting in a lot of hard work during the national camp held in Chandigarh,” said Runjhun. India eves will face stiff competition from countries like China, Japan, Macau and Chinese Taipei.
