DC,CP and SSP thank voters and Officers/Officials for smppth polling

 62.36% VOTERS CAST THEIR VOTE DURING LS POLLS DESPITE OF SCORCHING HEAT

Jalandhar, May 19, 2019 ( By SK.Vyas): Around 62.36% voters of Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency exercised their franchise during the general elections held here today amidst elaborate arrangements made by the district administration.

Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the entire voting process for the Lok Sabha constituency has been completed in a totally peaceful manner during the general elections. He said that the polls in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat were generally peaceful adding electors participated in the polls without any fear and inducement to exercise their franchise despite of hot weather. Mr. Sharma said that the polling percentage in the general election was 62.36% whereas it was 67.21% at the previous Lok Sabha polls held in the year 2014.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines collected from the polling parties would be dispatched to counting center at the office of Director Land Records Punjab, where counting of votes was to be done, amidst tight security. He said that Para Military Force would be deployed at the counting centre along with round the clock surveillance through the CCTV installed in the premises of the counting centre. Mr. Sharma said that counting of votes would take place on May 23 at 8 am during which around 500 members counting staff would be deputed in the counting centre for counting the votes.

The Deputy Commissioner said that on the counting day the staff would be divided into 15 teams with three members on each every table. He said that no stone would be left unturned to ensure that the counting was held in a peaceful and transparent manner besides in consonance with the guidelines of the Election Commission.

 

Map of Jalandhar, PunjabThe officers, who regularly kept a strict vigil over the entire situation, during the polling hours by visiting the key and vulnerable polling booths, ensured that people do not face any sort of problem in exercising their franchise during these polls. The officers visited model and all women managed polling booths at Ladowali Road, Model Town and Jandu Singha where they held detailed deliberations with the polling staff, voters and others.
Meanwhile, they thanked the wise voter of the district for once again upholding the glorious tradition of exercising their franchise freely by calling their votes without any fear. They said that peaceful turn out by the voters for exercising their franchise reflects the love that Punjabis have for their democratic rights. They said that polling was completely peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booth in the parliamentary constituency. They said that no major incident of violence was reported during the voting that started at 7 am in the morning and was completed at 6 pm.They said that district administration had made elaborate security arrangements for today’s polling as around 23,000 employees from the city and Police department had been assigned various duties. They said that 2329 polling parties were deployed at 1863 polling booths of the district
