· SPECIAL TEAM CONSTITUTED BY DC UNDER ‘TANDARUST PUNJAB’ MISSION CONDUCTS SPECIAL CHECK IN FRUIT MARKET TAKES TWO SAMPLES
Jalandhar, June 12, 2018 ( By Sachin Vyas): In a bid to provide quality fruits to the people for ensuring their good health, the district administration today started a special drive under the ‘Tandarust Punjab’ mission to check the artificial ripening of the fruits, which poses a serious danger to human health.
A special team constituted by the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today conducted the checking in the fruits and vegetable market at Maqsoodan to thoroughly check the exercise of ripening of fruits carried on by the fruit merchants.
The team comprising District Mandi Officer Varinder Khera, District Health Officer Dr. Balwinder Singh, Horticulture Officer Bhajan Singh Saini, Naib Tehsildar Manohar Lal, Food Safety Officers Rashu Mahajan and Divya Bhagat and others inspected the fruit and vegetable market in the morning. The team inspected the ripening chamber being run by the state government and then team inspected the ripening chambers run by the private parties. Sensing some irregularities in the ripening of the fruits the team took two samples one from the Ripening chamber and one from the open market.
The samples would be sent to Chandigarh for further analysis to ascertain if the fruits were ripened artificially by using chemicals like calcium carbide, which was very harmful for human consumption, or not. The team also warned the traders that this drive would be carried in coming days also and stern action was taken against them if any sort of irregularities were found in it. They said that under the ‘Tandarust Punjab’ Mission the district administration was committed to checking the sale of spurious or adulterated food items that cause irreparable damage to the human health.
