A dry day in Jalandhar district from 6 pm on May 17 to 6 pm and on May 19.

Jalandhar, May 17, 2019: Keeping in view the ensuing Lok Sabha Polls the District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma has declared a dry day in Jalandhar district from 6 pm on May 17 to 6 pm and on May 19.

          Divulging the details, spokesperson of the district administration said that exercising the powers vested through section 54 of the Punjab Excise Act 1914 and section 135 C of the Representation of the People’s Act 1951, the Deputy Commissioner has declared dry day in entire district from Mat 17-19 in wake of the polling for Lok Sabha on May 19.  Likewise, Mr. Sharma has also declared a dry day in the district of May 23, the day on which counting of votes would take place.

The Deputy Commissioner ordered that on these days, no hotel, restaurant, club, etc would be allowed to serve liquor in their premises. He ordered that no person could store liquor on these days as well. He stated that these orders have been issued to maintain law and order in view of the polling and counting.
