  • REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS IN SHAHKOT TO TAKE PLACE AFTER BY-POLL WAS OVER-DC

Jalandhar, May 13 (By Madhur): Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for special summary revision of Photo electoral roll 2019 for Lok Sabha/ Vidhana Sabha assembly segments for the left out eligible voters. However, the schedule would be applicable in Shahkot after the ensuing by-election.

Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Jalandhar

Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the Commission has approved the calendar of pro-revision activity of draft publication of photo electoral rolls. He said that the claims and objections for the draft publication of rolls could be filed from September 1 to October 31, 2018, at the concerned polling booths or the offices of the Registration Officers/ Assistant Registration Officers. Sharma said that from May 15 to June 20 verification of the voters would be done by the Booth Level Officers adding that from June 21 to July 31 the Physical verification and rationalization of the polling booths would be conducted.

The Deputy Commissioner said that any person who was eligible for becoming the voter as on January 1, 2019, could register themselves as a voter. He said that forms for all claims and objection would be available free of cost at the offices of Registration Officers/ Assistant Registration Officers. Sharma said that the all Electoral officers have been directed to conduct meeting with leaders of political parties to aware them about the revision of Electoral Rolls.

 The Deputy Commissioner said that besides registering themselves with the concerned officers the new voters could also register themselves online through National Voter Services Portal (NVSP). Likewise, he said that the enrollment for a new vote could also be done by loading an app of the Election Commission on the mobile phone. Sharma said that the voter list could be viewed on the websites of Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab viz. www.eci.nic.in and www.ceopunjab.nic.in respectively. However, he said that due to the ongoing election process in Shahkot assembly segment, the work of revision of electoral rolls would be started after the by-poll was over.
