SHIMLA--Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar said that the fishermen of the state have been provided financial assistance of Rs 2000 per fisherman of the state in view of the lockdown imposed in the country and state in view of the corona pandemic.
He said that due to the lockdown, there was complete ban on fishing and other commercial activities in the state’s reservoirs from March 25 to April 20, 2020, due to which the fishermen have been facing financial crisis. He said that keeping in view the interests of fishermen, the State Government has provided an economic package of Rs. 1.07 crore, which would prove beneficial for fishermen in this time of crisis.
Virender Kanwar said that 5350 active reservoir fishermen of the state have been benefited by providing financial assistance of Rs 2000. This includes 2213 of Gobind Sagar, 113 of Koldam, 69 of Ranjit Sagar, 155 of Chamera and 2800 fishermen of Pong Dam.
He said that a special scheme has also been prepared by the Rural and Panchayati Raj Department to provide relief to fishermen, under which the fishermen would be provided relief in addition to the regular closed season relief allowance.
