GoC-in-Chief honours bravehearts  at Western Command Investiture Ceremony

Chandigarh February 27, 2019: Western Command Investiture Ceremony was conducted at Hayde Auditorium, Amritsar Cantt, on 27 Feb 19 with military elan and splendor, by the Panther Division under the aegis of Vajra Corps. Lt Gen Surinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, felicitated 49 officers and soldiers of the Indian army with gallantry and distinguished service awards for their acts of bravery, exceptional devotion to duty and distinguished service to the nation. Stories of indomitable courage of the bravehearts in the face of adversities charged the atmosphere with patriotic fervour. One of these awardees was honoured posthumously. A total of one YSM, two Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry), 29 Sena Medal (Gallantry), one Bar to Sena Medal (Distinguished), four Sena Medal (Distinguished), and 12 VSM were awarded during the ceremony.

The Army Commander bestowed Unit Citation to 17 units of the Western Command for their meritorious and outstanding performance.

The Army Commander congratulated all the awardees and recipients of Unit Citations and exhorted all ranks to emulate their example and achieve standards in line with the traditions and glory of the Indian army. He also complimented formations and units of Western Command for their excellent performance in all spheres of military activities during the preceding year and expressed confidence that they are well prepared to counter the emerging security challenges.
