Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India initiated an initiative “Eat Right Campus” to promote safe, healthy and sustainable food in campuses such as academic institutes, workplaces, and hospitals across the country. People spend the majority of their time outside their homes and consume at least one meal in their canteens/ cafeterias.
Campuses need to be more conscious and mindful of their student’s/employees’ health due to the growth of lifestyle disorders combined with the rising incidence of diet-related diseases. It is important for a campus to ensure the availability of safe food and healthy diets in its premises. Eat Right Campus initiative of FSSAI provides a unique opportunity to showcase their efforts around people’s health and well-being, but also helps in setting an example about the best practices towards the availability of safe and hygienic food.
