HEALTH WORKERS TO IDENTIFY, SENSITIZE AND CLEAR THE DOUBTS OF THE COUPLES REGARDING PROCEDURE- CIVIL SURGEON
JALANDHAR, November 15, 2019: In an endeavour to increase the male participation in family planning measures, the health department is set to start ‘No-Scalpel Vasectomy’ (NSV) fortnight from November 21-December 4 in the district.
Divulging the details, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla said under this fortnight, a mobilization drive would be carried out by frontline health workers including Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and others in all blocks of the district from November 21 to November 27 and service delivery week would be observed from November 28 to December 4.
She told that in the first week, ANMs, ASHAs, multipurpose health workers (Male), Sanitation Inspectors and others would identify and sensitize the interested couples especially males to undergo NSV, a permanent surgical birth control measure.
She said the health workers would clear the doubts or myths that people have about family planning and would prepare a list of those couples who will be ready for adopting family planning measures. She further said that the officials from the department would also visit different villages and would hold group discussions in this regard.
The awareness about fortnight would also be done by installing hoardings or flex boards on the prominent places of the district, she told.
She added that the health department would also sensitize the people in medical camps or health institutions. She informed an incentive of Rs 1100 is being given to males opting for the procedure.
She stated that teams at the district level have been made for this purpose and further duties of doctors have been fixed.
She informed that services would be delivered in government health facility centers in Jalandhar cantonment, Phillaur, Bundala, Kartarpur, Bara Pind, Nurmahal, Shahkot, Kala Bakra, Nakodar, Adampur and Civil Hospital Jalandhar.
