Khalsa College Chandigarh lifts CAGERS Cup

Chandigarh, April 01, 2019: Team of Khalsa College, Chandigarh lifted the CAGERS Cup trophy by beating the host team A of Chandigarh University Gharuan on the final day of the Inter-University Basketball (Men) Championship. Playing in the final match, team Khalsa College dominated the match by winning the first three quarters (23-11), (22-5), (13-8) but losing the last quarter (11-9) against team A of the host, Chandigarh University, Gharuan. Jatin a player of Khalsa College was the top scorer with 26 points in the final match while Abhishek, Chandigarh University was the lead scorer with 14 points. Jatin also bagged the Player of the tournament award being the highest scorer with 88 overall points. The host team A of Chandigarh University Gharuan finished as runners-up in the tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, the first seminal match was played between team of Chandigarh University and team B of Chandigarh University. Team A won the first three quarters (9-7), (17-15), (20-15) against team B while losing the final quarter (15-17) but winning the match to enter the finals. Abhishek and Saransh were the top scorer for their respective teams A and B by scoring 21 each in the match. In a tough and nail-biting second semi-final match team from Khalsa College, Chandigarh beat team Punjab University with the overall score difference (77-63). Both the teams Punjab University and Khalsa College, Chandigarh won two quarters each (10-25), (15-18), (20-19) and (18-16) and finally team Khalsa College won the match on the basis of the overall scores in the match. Amit from Khalsa College was the highest scorer with 48 points while Jaipal from Punjab University was the highest scorer for Punjab University.

The match for the third position was won by Punjab University, Chandigarh against team B of Chandigarh University with clean sweep in all the four quarters (13-11), (11-9), (14-7), (27-10). Dildar (PU) was the highest scorer with the score 17 while Gaurav was the top scorer for CU Team B with score of 21 in the match.
