Jalandhar, September 18,2019: The two-day legal awareness program organized by Punjab State Commission for Women with the assistance of National Commission for Women at local HMV College concluded on Wednesday in which the legal experts detailed about various laws and provisions to safeguard the rights of women.
The experts including Additional District Attorney Mr Maneet Duggal and Deputy District Attorney Ms Ritu Grover and Ms Rupam highlighted about The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, IPC sections 376, 376 (D), 354 (A TO D), 326 (A), Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and others in the seminar.
The experts also elaborated various key judgements of various courts to the gathering. They asked the girls students to further sensitize other women in their localities or families regarding the laws to empower them.
Later, Member of Punjab State Commission for Women Mrs Kiranpreet Kaur Dhami said that legal awareness is essential to safeguard rights of women. The commission has been actively creating awareness about the legal rights of women and even providing them with counsel, she said and added that the commission would organize such seminars in the future too.
She told that the Indian constitution provides equal rights to women in every sphere which was the key to the success of women in the country.
Kaur also stressed that education is important for girls because it gives them a chance to lead dignified lives.
