Medical Specialists, Nutritionists to aware of fitness and health of elderly
Jalandhar, January 11, 2020: In order to sensitize the senior citizens about intake of nutrient-rich diet daily and healthy lifestyle, The District Administration is set to hold a special Nutrition Awareness Camp for the elderly in the coming days.
The aging usually brings changes in the body such as loss of muscle mass, weak bones and reduced digestive capabilities hence the nutrition becomes more important for them.
Divulging the details, The Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the camp will be dedicated to the senior citizens under Poshan Abhiyaan by the department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children.
He said that the medical specialists, orthopedics, gynecologists, nutritionists and others will talk on various health issues in the camp and they will give answers to the queries of the participants.
Sharma added that yoga experts and physiotherapists will also give a lecture on various subjects concerning the elderly.
Besides, the Deputy Commissioner further told that painting competition, small races and games will also be part of the event.
He said that the directions have been issued to the department to ensure a maximum number of elderly in the camp.
District Program Officer Amarjeet Singh Bhullar told that age-related diseases such as malnutrition, diabetes, high blood pressure, increased cholesterol levels and other health issues have become normal among them.
He said that they need a regular intake of calcium and Vitamin D to maintain their bone health and foods rich in calcium such as cereals, fruit juices, green vegetables, milk are ideal sources for the nutrients besides daily walks, small physical exercise and etc.
