Jalandhar, May 8, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar cum President of District Red Cross Society Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that Red Cross Society would ever act as a beacon to inspire the youngsters for serving the humanity in right spirit.
Addressing the gathering during a state-level function to commemorate World Red Cross Day here at local Red Cross Bhawan, the Deputy Commissioner said that Red Cross Society was basically a reformatory movement aimed at mitigating the woes of the ailing humanity. He said that this movement has been instrumental in rekindling a spirit of compassion, peace, love and brotherhood amongst the humanity that had been since long divided on various parochial considerations. Sharma said that the youth must take inspiration from this great movement that teaches all of them to serve the humanity.
The Deputy Commissioner further said that every one of us should strive hard for creating a harmonious and egalitarian society by giving a healing touch to entire humanity as envisaged by the Red Cross Society. He said that every effort must be made to ensure that the message of compassion and humanity was spread in every nook and corner of the district. Likewise, Sharma that all out efforts must be made ensure that message of service of humanity must be inculcated amongst the minds of people.
The Deputy Commissioner said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction that the Red Cross Society in Jalandhar was working dedicatedly to serve the needy and underprivileged strata of society. He said that the society was getting fulsome support and cooperation from the local volunteers of the society. Sharma also thanked the Punjab Secretary of Red Cross CS Talwar for choosing the city as the venue of the function.
In his address, the Secretary Red Cross Society Punjab and former IAS officer CS Talwar said that the Red Cross Society was a testimony of the fact that Red Cross was a testimony that single man’s determination and love for humanity could transform the destiny of entire mankind. Talwar said that this movement has shown the way to entire humanity for serving the people in true spirit. Hailing the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar for his humanitarian approach, Talwar said that the people of Jalandhar were fortunate to have a Deputy Commissioner with the qualities of head and heart. He also lauded the Deputy Commissioner for his love for the Punjabi language and culture.
In his address, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Jaapinder Singh said that he was fortunate to be here for participating in this function. He said that the Red Cross Society was rendering a great service to the humanity. Mr. Jaapinder Singh said that as per directives of Apex court DLSA was also following the footsteps of the society in serving the needy people by providing them free legal aid.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh proposed the vote of thanks.

CS Talwar also inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp to mark the day.
