Chandigarh: Samasya Samadhan Team (SST) doing tremendous work for the welfare of society. SST distributes jute and cloth bag on Plastic bag free day and organizes awareness camp for a stop to use plastic. Now, SST wrote a letter to environment minister Prakash Javadekar urges them
to issue orders to selling milk in a glass bottle instead of the plastic
pouch because it pollutes the environment.
SST President A.K. Sood said that daily thousand tonnes of plastic is produced in city and maximum share of this production is milk pouch, therefore, we have written to environment minister Prakash Javadekar and to the Administrator of
Chandigarh V.P Singh Badnore to stop using milk pouch in the city and suggests using glass bottles or start supplies like Delhi pattern, where consumers have to carry their own utensils to collect milk from milk van or on milk booth. Shishupal and Balwinder Singh said that Chandigarh administration has issued a notification on 27.09.2019 for a complete ban on single-use plastic in Chandigarh but now three items from notification ban list lifted without any specific reason by issuing amendment in a notification on 1.7.2020.
We have read the notification and take suggestions from environmentalists and everyone gave us the opinion that the execution of items from the ban list creates the environmental problem and the department can give some time limit relaxation to companies to prepare alternate for these items instead of lifting the total ban. This decision is wrong and against the environment
During the modification of this notification, Chandigarh Administration neither take any suggestions/ objections from the general public nor mention the reason for amending the rule. Therefore, we request the Administrator to re-examine the notification amendment and for reverting it for the sake of a healthy environment or society.
